PocketPrimer Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 1, 2026

(This date will be updated to match PocketPrimer's first App Store / TestFlight release.)

The short version

PocketPrimer does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information. Everything the app sees stays on your iPhone. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no ads, and no third-party services that touch your data.

If that's all you wanted to know, you're done. The rest is the long version, in plain English.

What PocketPrimer does on your device

PocketPrimer is an iPhone app that helps you set up a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. To do that, it needs a few things from your phone:

  • The camera (with your permission). When you tap "Read the light," the app turns on your iPhone's rear camera to meter the scene — measure exposure, white balance, and depth at the point you tap. The image is processed on your device and is never saved, uploaded, or shown to anyone but you. We use the captured photo only long enough to read brightness numbers from it, then we discard it.
  • Bluetooth (with your permission). The app uses Bluetooth Low Energy to talk to your Blackmagic camera. The only Bluetooth devices we look for are Blackmagic cinema cameras advertising the standard camera control service. We do not scan for or interact with any other devices, and we do not transmit any data over Bluetooth except the camera control commands you trigger.
  • Local storage. The app remembers your gear (which lenses you own), your saved shot profiles, your app preferences, and the identifier of the last camera you connected to (so it can reconnect automatically next time). All of this is stored on your device using iOS's built-in storage. None of it leaves your phone.
  • Permission to use these things. iOS will ask you for permission the first time the app needs the camera or Bluetooth. You can revoke either at any time in iOS Settings → PocketPrimer. If you deny permission, the app will still work — you just won't be able to use the features that depend on what you denied.

What PocketPrimer does not do

  • It does not have user accounts. You don't sign in to anything.
  • It does not connect to the internet for any reason. It has no network code at all.
  • It does not include any third-party tracking, analytics, advertising, or crash reporting SDKs.
  • It does not collect, store, or transmit your location, contacts, photos, microphone audio, identifiers for advertisers, or any other personal data.
  • It does not share any data with any third party — because we don't have any data to share.
  • It does not retain any information after you delete the app. iOS removes everything when you uninstall.

Data we collect

We collect no data. There is nothing to disclose under categories like "data linked to you," "data not linked to you," or "data used to track you" — those App Store privacy questions are all answered "no."

Children

PocketPrimer is a tool for filmmakers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, regardless of age, because we do not collect information at all.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of PocketPrimer ever starts collecting any kind of data — for example, if we add an optional cloud backup or crash reporting feature — we will update this policy before that version ships, and the change will be visible here with a new "Last updated" date. We will not apply changes retroactively to data that was on your device under an earlier version of the app.
